Mission is to serve: Emily Onyango consecrated as first woman assistant bishop

The Circle of Concerned African Women Theologians (Kenya Chapter) congratulates you on your consecration today, 27th March 2021.

We celebrate with you as we acknowledge your role in the formation and growth of the Circle as one of the founding members. We honor you as a Matriarch who has not only set the foundation, but also the pace in breaking the glass ceiling to open up spaces of service and ministry for women. Your consecration is a significant landmark in the efforts to redefine the ministry of women which is among the main objectives of the Circle. We glorify God that you are the first woman to serve in this office in the Anglican Church of Kenya, and certainly not the last.

We pray that the Holy Spirit who journeyed with Jesus through the wilderness will empower you as you continue to serve God and humanity in our contemporary context that is multifaceted and challenging. May God keep you in perfect peace, protect you, and sustain you, as you give leadership, mentorship and pastoral care; and also as you continue to impart and influence mindsets through teaching. Just like Deborah, may you lead with wisdom and may your leadership be celebrated by the current and future generations.

Once again congratulations!
